The Best Demolition Contractors in Edmonton to Call If You Need a Safe Tear Down

Credentials and Licenses. We made sure that these demolition contractors have the proper credentials and licenses. They should’ve completed apprenticeship training for construction from renowned institutions like the Alberta Construction Training Institute (ACTI).

The companies should have a contractor's license from the Alberta government as well. Additionally, we prefer it if the people working in a construction or demolition company have had several years of experience.

Bonding and Insurance. We also checked that the demolition is bonded and has property damage insurance for everyone’s safety. We also asked for insurance certificates.

Service. We judged how comprehensive their services are. Ideally, they should handle all the necessary permits to ensure compliance with local codes. They should also make sure to clean up after the job is done.

Pricing. As much as possible, the demolition contractors should offer rates that don’t go beyond C$15 per square foot. We’d also like it if they offer free quotes to clients beforehand.

We used to have this pretty sizeable shed in our yard, but it was so worn down that it was useless. My family and I wanted to build a recreation shack in its place, but before we could hire a construction company for this, the shed had to be demolished first.

Fortunately, we didn’t have to worry too much about the demolition because a demolition contractor took care of that for us. We didn’t even have to do any cleaning either, which I was thankful for.

Here are some of the best demolition contractors in Edmonton if you’re also planning a new construction project.

How much does a demolition contractor cost in Edmonton?

Demolitions in Edmonton usually cost between C$5 and C$15 per square foot. So, if you’re demolishing a 1,500-square-foot home, the price can range somewhere between C$7,500 and C$22,500.

Ultimately, we went with Downright Demo for our shack project because many recommended them. I suppose that’s not a surprise; they have over 50 years of experience, and their clientele includes both residential and commercial clients!

I like the variety of services here. They can demolish—or deconstruct, if you prefer a methodological disassembly—interior and exterior components or excavate a specific area. They even have asbestos removal services!

Another thing I like about this company is the fact that they try to minimize waste by recycling most of the debris they get from the demolition sites or properly discarding any hazardous materials. I appreciate this because sustainability is important to me.

I’m also impressed with the overall process. After I reached out for an inquiry, a representative responded in no time to give me a quote, and then we quickly settled on a date.

When the demo date came, the crew came early to our shed, got to work immediately, and then cleaned the area afterward. We were impressed with their speed!

However, I do have one bone to pick with this company: the equipment they use can get really loud. I hope they replace that with more recent and less noisy equipment in the future.

Pros

  • Over 50 years of experience
  • Serves both residential and commercial clients
  • Wide array of services
  • Eco-friendly protocol
  • Fast and smooth process
  • Punctual, efficient, and respectful demo team

Cons

  • Loud and noisy equipment

Outstanding team

We recently had Downright in to complete a major demolition of some of our office spaces, and I want to go on record to say that Ben and his team were outstanding. They were on time, within budget (with no hidden fees), and followed all of our safety protocols without issue. The job was completed on schedule, and the entire process was smooth from start to finish. Serge and his crew were easy to communicate with, professional, and efficient throughout the project. I can’t say enough good things — if you need demolition work done, make sure to get a quote from these guys. Highly recommended!

Quick service

I needed an attached covered patio removed, but was concerned the job was too small. However, within a day of requesting a price I had an estimate and three days later the job was done! They did an awesome job and cleaned up all the debris from my backyard. Very impressed by the friendly staff and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

What people like about All West Demolition is that they don’t just serve Edmonton; they’ve also worked on projects in St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, and more. Oh, and they can do residential, commercial, and even industrial projects!

In addition to their demolition services, this company is equipped to deal with industrial plant decommissioning, hazardous waste removal, and excavation. They can also provide crushed concrete and asphalt (recycled from demo sites!) to anyone interested.

Clients also commend the crew for being reliable. One booked this company for excavation, and he appreciated that the crew stored all the excavated materials neatly. He encountered an issue afterward, but the crew immediately came back to deal with it.

Pricing here is reasonable, from what I hear, but if you’re still not sure, you can call them or fill out their contact form on their website to book an assessment and get a free estimate.

That said, I do wish that they offer deconstruction services as well. Some people might not prefer to have a structure completely destroyed, so deconstruction would’ve been a better fit for them.

Pros

  • Serves Edmonton and other areas in Alberta
  • Can do residential, commercial, and industrial projects
  • Reliable crew
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Free assessment and estimate

Cons

  • No deconstruction services

Easy to work with

All West was a big help with our infill project. They were able to help with the demolition of the old house, excavation for the new place and back fill once the foundation was in. They even stored all the excavated materials. After excavation, we had an issue were we needed to get the crew back and All West showed up the next day preventing significant delays. The folks there are super easy to work with and have a true desire to do the right thing. I would not hesitate to call them again.”

Reliable and friendly team

We used All West to demo my family’s house in Edmonton. 10/10! They’re reliable, friendly and know what they’re doing. I will always recommend their company and already have future jobs set up with them!

Cerkal General Services Ltd. is best known for their hazardous material services. In particular, they can do asbestos abatement and mould inspection (like these pros) and remediation. They also have other services, like fire and flood cleanup and demolition.

Admittedly, since they’re not primarily a demolition contractor, their demolition services are limited. They can only do straight demolition. If you want a methodological take-down of the structure, you’ll have to go elsewhere.

On a more positive note, former clients praised the crew here. One said that he was impressed by the crew’s punctuality and thoroughness. They also had great attention to detail; they demolished the structure while not causing damage to the nearby area.

Another client shared that he found the staff approachable and understanding, so he didn’t feel overwhelmed when he booked their services.

However, I’ve heard complaints about the company being poorly managed. One client claimed that Cerkal didn’t read their important documents before making decisions, and since they outsource to other providers, fixing issues can be a hassle.

Pros

  • Wide array of services
  • Punctual and thorough demolition crew
  • Great attention to detail
  • Approachable and understanding staff

Cons

  • No deconstruction services
  • Fixing issues can be a hassle because of outsourced staff

Punctual, organized, and efficient team

Team was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I was so impressed by their punctuality, organized, clean, thorough and detail oriented. Job was completed in a timely manner and came in on budget. I am happy to recommend Cerkal!.

What I like about R3 Deconstruction is that they don’t just offer straight demolition services. They can also do selective deconstruction, which is perfect for people who only want one area inside a building to be demolished or deconstructed.

This company has other services as well, such as abatement, concrete coring, and concrete cutting. These services are available to both residential and commercial clients.

Clients have great things to say about the demo team. One shared that he was doing a full apartment building gut and remodel, and the R3 crew was so efficient that they finished ahead of schedule! They also remained on budget, which he appreciated.

In addition to the crew’s great performance, the price can’t be beat here as well. You can contact them via phone or their contact form to ask for a free quote if you want to see if their rates are within your budget.

That said, I’ve heard complaints about the company using noisy equipment. It’s even worse if they use it at night. Several clients told me that they did a demolition at night, which caused several sleepless nights for the area’s residents.

Pros

  • Wide array of services
  • Selective deconstruction available
  • Serves both residential and commercial clients
  • Efficient team
  • Reasonable prices
  • Free quotes available

Cons

  • Noisy equipment

Great performance, affordable prices

Excellent experience. I was very pleased with their performance, professionalism, efficiency, price, and cleanliness they brought to a recent project we worked together on. It was my first time hiring them, and will certainly look for opportunities to do so again in the future. I would strongly recommend Justin and the R3 crew.

Finished ahead of schedule

These guys are awesome! We were doing a full apartment building gut and remodel. They finished the job ahead of schedule and on budget. What more can you ask for? The team seemed to be having fun while they worked which shows strong company culture. Keep it up R3!

5. The Junk Guys

The Junk Guys is aptly named because they do handle all sorts of junk. They can demolish almost everything—from items like hot tubs and swimming pools to structures like houses and garages. They can also remove junk like old furniture and appliances.

Though homeowners are their main clients, they’ve also worked with contractors, builders, business owners, landlords, realtors, and property managers.

It’s not a surprise that they have a wide clientele. The team here has earned the reputation of being courteous and respectful. Every time they finish working for the day, they make sure to clean up the property.

One client even shared that during the operation, they discovered a squirrel nest with babies, and they paused the demolition to help relocate the babies and reunite them with the mother.

The rates here are fair as well, and clients appreciate that they don’t get gouged on extra fees once all is said and done. If you’re interested, they can give a free estimate for your project.

I also really like that they’re open every day. As such, people can book an appointment during their free time.

Unfortunately, this company doesn’t offer deconstruction services, which is a bit of a bummer for people who wish to keep the materials for future use.

Pros

  • Wide array of services
  • Serves both residential and commercial clients
  • Courteous and respectful crew
  • Fair prices
  • Free estimate
  • Open every day

Cons

  • No deconstruction services

Respectful, courteous, and hardworking team

The Junk Guys… in one word… amazing! I hired them to demolish my old shed which was quite large at 24 feet long and 8 feet wide. They came in and safely took care of business. They were respectful, courteous and hard working. They took excellent care of my property and cleaned up as they worked and afterwards as well. And they didn’t gouge us on fees. They quoted us a reasonable price, which was more than worth it! We found a squirrel nest with brand new babies in it, and they helped me take care of that and reunite momma squirrel with her babies. Now if that doesn’t tell you about who these people are as human beings, nothing will! They did such an amazing job for us! We will recommend them to everyone we know! Junk Guys, thank you for such an impeccable job well done! We are more than impressed! Thank you all for your hard work and all of the care you showed at our property!
