One company that I think really delivers when it comes to sustainability is Penley Contracting. I liked that they recycle old materials instead of sending everything to the landfill, which also translates to lower material costs for your deck repairs.
It’s good too that the paints they use are low-VOC, making the finish safer for the household and better for the environment.
They also make it easy to get started with a free consultation, which helps you figure out the scope before paying anything. Furthermore, they provide a quality guarantee as reassurance that the work will last.
The only catch is that they’re in demand. It can be tough to book them since their schedule fills quickly, and there have been times when projects ran into delays.

BlueMaple Construction was founded in 2021 and has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). What stood out to me is how they focus on strengthening what’s already there.
If a post or joist is weak, they’ll reinforce or replace it so the deck feels solid again. They’re also sharp at spotting moisture traps or poor connections that could cause rot or corrosion later.
Safety is a big part of their work too. They’ll stabilise stairs, fix rise and run if they’re off, and make sure railings are secure. Knowing repairs come with a 5-year warranty adds peace of mind.
Still, it’s important to note that their weekend availability is quite limited. They also look at each job based on how serious the damage is and where it’s located. During busy times, they might turn down small repair requests on the outskirts of Edmonton.

Sustain: The Deck Company has made a name for itself, even winning the Top Choice Award for Deck Builder in 2021. What I’ve noticed is that they focus strongly on repairs, not just new builds, and they handle both residential and commercial decks.
If your boards are worn out, they’ll swap them with composite or Trex, which hold up well here. A big plus is that they don’t stop when winter hits. I’ve learned that they can repair decks in cold months, which is handy when you don’t want to wait until spring.
On the flip side, they really prefer you call to book. If you try sending an online enquiry, it might take you some time to receive a response. It’s also a bit disappointing that they sometimes fail to respond to enquiries.

I checked out GoDecksYEG, and they’ve been around for more than 12 years, which is quite impressive. They’re part of the GoHomeYEG group and know their way around fixing decks made from natural wood, vinyl, composite, and even metal.
One of the best things about them is that they’re fully insured and covered by WCB (Workers’ Compensation Board), which adds a bit of reassurance. Their “Cost Plus” pricing makes it easier to see where your money goes, and they’re sometimes open to matching a competitor’s lower quote.
They also offer financing through FinanceIt, which helps if you’re working with a tight budget.
They’re not flawless, though. They can take up to 48 hours to reply to enquiries. Their portfolio is also pretty small, so if you like seeing lots of past work, that might be a drawback.
