The 5 Best Ice Cream Stores in Edmonton for Your Next Sugar Rush

Flavour variety: I looked at menus to see who offers classic vanilla alongside inventive new tastes. A dessert trip falls flat if half your family can't find a flavour they want.

Preparation style: I checked prep methods to highlight shops that offer something beyond a basic scoop. Some nights call for watching your dessert get rolled on a cold plate.

Dietary options: I reviewed allergen warnings and vegan availability, and noted what to double-check before ordering. Plant-based eaters deserve a rich, creamy dessert too.

Late-night availability: I noted closing times to find spots that cater to the late-night dessert crowd. The craving often hits long after dinner.

Few things are more disappointing than waiting in line for ice cream and getting a scoop that tastes as if it came from a freezer tub. A great dessert stop should have flavours worth the trip and options for everyone in your group.

That’s harder to find than it sounds. But don’t worry! I’m here to make it simpler.

I compared local dessert spots in Edmonton and looked at their menus, flavours, and dietary options. Below are the best ice cream stores in Edmonton for a scoop, a swirl, or a chocolate-dipped treat.

How much does ice cream cost in Edmonton?

1. Choco N’ Dip

choco-n-dip

Website: chocondip.com

Address: 8882 170 Street

Contact: 587-938-4095 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM | Sunday, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Walking through West Edmonton Mall with kids usually means settling for whatever snack is closest. Choco N’ Dip changes that with a menu that leans on customizable coatings and drizzles over traditional hard scoops.

They let customers build their own chocolate-dipped ice cream or frozen cheesecake on the spot. This setup keeps children entertained while everyone gets exactly what they crave

When I dropped by, I tried the Lotus Biscoff ice cream. It had a rich vanilla base and a satisfying crunch from the cookie pieces. It’s the perfect sweet fix for a mid-shopping craving.

The catch is that you won’t find a long lineup of conventional scoop flavours because their focus stays on those dipped novelties.

Pros

  • Build-your-own dipped desserts
  • Customizable coatings and drizzles
  • Lotus Biscoff ice cream
  • West Edmonton Mall location

Cons

  • Dipped novelties over conventional scoops

Such a lovely gesture

We went so my husband could try the cheesecake on a stick- which he loved. The owner (I think) asked if I wanted to try his favourite, the Dubai pistachio chocolate ice cream cup. I was expecting a sample on a spoon but he made the whole desert for me at no charge! Such a lovely gesture, and a really friendly staff. The ice cream itself was really good and a unique blend of flavours and textures. The great service made our day!

This place is amazing

This place is amazing. My daughter was so excited to press the button and got 10 seconds to scratch off a prize. She got the Oreo ice cream and loved it. Especially getting to inject the chocolate into it. The woman working there was super friendly and accommodating. We will be back.

Address: 9728 Ellerslie Road

Contact: 587-735-4362 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM | Friday to Saturday, 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM | Sunday, 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM

Finding a dessert hangout that stays open after a late dinner often feels impossible in the suburbs. Ice Flame solves that late-night scramble by serving fresh, hand-rolled ice cream until well past midnight.

That schedule makes them an easy meeting spot for young professionals who want to stretch their evening out.

The staff pour a liquid base onto a freezing plate and scrape it into creamy spirals right in front of you.

Their menu shines with Indian-inspired creations like the Gulab Jamun Kulfi flavour, which adds a bold, fragrant twist to sweet cream. They also offer vegetarian and eggless options for dietary-conscious visitors.

The catch is that their specialty rolled ice cream can be a bit pricey, with some flavours going for over $13 CAD each. That might feel a little steep if you’re just looking for a quick ice cream fix.

Pros

  • Fresh hand-rolled ice cream
  • Open past midnight
  • Indian-inspired flavours
  • Vegetarian and eggless options

Cons

  • Some specialty rolled ice cream flavours cost over $13 CAD.

100% worth the drive at midnight

Absolutely loved this place! 🔥

I tried the Strawberry Kunafa and the Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, and oh man… both were SO good! The kunafa was incredibly flavorful and perfectly crispy — I honestly couldn’t stop eating it. The brownie was super soft, warm, and tasted amazing with the vanilla ice cream.

Definitely going to be my go-to spot whenever I’m craving dessert. It was 100% worth the drive at midnight! 😍

Highly recommend Ice Flame!

We arrived just fifteen minutes before closing, but Arpan was extremely friendly and patiently guided us to choose exactly what we wanted. Muskan prepared our falloda ice cream perfectly — it was absolutely delicious!

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM | Friday to Saturday, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM | Sunday, 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Some soft serve has that straight-from-a-mix taste that leaves you wanting something better. Drizzle Ice Cream makes their base from scratch daily without added preservatives, which gives a cleaner texture.

Their standout item is a customizable cone dipped in thick Belgian chocolate.

For parties, they offer custom pints that make a handy option for hosting. They’re a fun extra if you’ve already picked up a cake from one of the cake shops.

A friend ordered a few freshly packed pints for a barbecue and said the natural vanilla base tasted incredibly fresh.

Dairy-free guests get a seasonal vegan coconut soft serve too.

However, that vegan coconut soft serve is a seasonal treat, available only from May through August. If you’re visiting outside those months, you’ll have to look elsewhere for a dairy-free scoop.

Ingredients are also handled close together, so they can’t guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Pros

  • Soft serve made from scratch daily
  • Belgian chocolate-dipped cones
  • Custom pints for hosting
  • Seasonal vegan coconut soft serve

Cons

  • Vegan option ends after August
  • No allergen-free guarantee

Hours: Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM | Saturday to Sunday, 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Falling into a rut with plain chocolate or strawberry happens easily when you visit the same shop every week. Annie Rue Ice Cream keeps things fresh with small-batch flavours that rotate every month.

That gives adventurous foodies a reason to keep coming back to try something new.

Behind those flavours are premium ingredients, including Valrhona chocolate and organic haskap berries from local farms.

A flavour like Baba’s Baked Apple packs intense, aromatic notes that outshine standard grocery store tubs.

Plant-based options like Toasted Oat give dairy-free eaters the same rich textures.

That said, seasonal flavours are only available while supplies last, so your favourite might vanish before your next visit.

Pros

  • Small-batch premium ingredients
  • Monthly rotating flavours
  • Local organic Haskap berries
  • Plant-based options like Toasted Oat

Cons

  • Rotating flavours sell out while supplies last

The Best Treat Destination In Edmonton

This spot is The Best Treat Destination In Edmonton. This ice cream shop is consistently fantastic. The waffle cones are always perfect, ice creams are very tasty with smooth consistency, there’s never ice crystals on the top.. and often there is a quick-moving line up, sometimes out the door! The neighborhood is great for kids with a splash park, playground, and a little pump track across the road. Outdoor seating is perfect for summertime snacks. Service is always friendly too!

the prices are very reasonable

The ice cream is great, and so are the waffle cones. The staff are always friendly. Their single scoop can be split into two different flavours, which is a fun way to enjoy more flavours when you don’t feel hungry enough for two whole scoops. And the prices are very reasonable. I recommend the carrot cake ice cream while it lasts!

Trying to please a family where one person wants a warm pastry and another wants a cold treat is a headache. Roll Me Up Ice Cream & Desserts solves that clash by serving Thai-style rolled ice cream alongside hot bubble waffles.

That big menu easily satisfies a group of picky eaters.

Half the fun is watching the staff chop your chosen mix-ins on a freezing plate and roll the base into neat cigars.

On top of that, they also offer milkshakes and classic scoops for those who want a fast dessert without the show.

Keep in mind, though, that their traditional hard-scoop selection is small. It’s still the cold-plate preparations that take centre stage.

  • Thai-style rolled ice cream
  • Hot bubble waffles
  • South Asian-inspired flavours
  • Milkshakes and classic scoops

Cons

  • Small hard-scoop selection
