The best acupuncture clinics in Edmonton are a godsend for my back pain
I may only be in my late 20s, but I feel like an old woman already. No, seriously. I get sleepy very early these days, and the back pain? Oh, the back pain has me channelling my inner grumpy old Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle.
A year or so ago, a friend recommended that I try acupuncture to help manage my back pain, and for a while, I was skeptical. Eventually, I went for it because why not, and to my surprise, it did help!
Now, I frequent local acupuncture clinics, so I already have a list of favourites. If this is your first time trying acupuncture, you might want to start at these places.
How much does acupuncture cost in Edmonton?
The cost of an acupuncture treatment in Edmonton usually falls between C$70 and C$100 (per treatment). Sometimes, the cost can even go beyond that range, especially if the clinic is incredibly popular.
The Acupuncture Turning Point

Address: 7609 109 St NW #203
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—9 am to 8 pm
- Saturday—10 am to 5 pm
Contact Number: +17804377723
The first thing I like about The Acupuncture Turning Point is the clinic’s appearance. It looks like an oasis, with its lush greenery and wooden furniture. This aesthetic actually helps set the mood; I feel relaxed throughout the session.
This clinic offers a wide variety of services, such as moxibustion and massage, but acupuncture is undoubtedly their main specialty.
I’ve asked some of the clinic’s past clients, and they told me that getting acupuncture here has helped them manage pain from the lower back, neck, knee, and head. Some clients even shared that their pain from serious conditions like shoulder dysfunction, fibromyalgia, and even cancer has been greatly reduced since they started coming here!
The staff here is wonderful as well. They’re warm and accommodating, and they treat you like you’re good friends.
Sometimes, my acupuncturist—the one who’s been treating me since the first time I came here—would even share some of his poetry with me during my visit! I’m not much of a poetry reader, but I appreciated it.
Moreover, if you have insurance, here’s a piece of good news: this clinic offers direct billing with major insurance companies. So, there’s a possibility you won’t have to pay a lot out of pocket during your visit!
However, the one thing I don’t like about this clinic is its rule regarding cancellation. It’s pretty strict. If you have to cancel, you must do it 24 hours before your scheduled session. If you fail to do this, you’ll have to pay a cancellation fee.

Wellness on Whyte

Address: 8135 102 St NW #303, Roots on Whyte
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—9 am to 8 pm
- Saturday—9 am to 5 pm
- Sunday—11 am to 5 pm
Contact Number: +17804379355
My friend, who recommended Wellness on Whyte to me, described this clinic as a healing sanctuary, and now that I’ve visited it, I can see why she said that. The clinic is bright and airy, with ambient music that soothes the soul, and, of course, the services they offer that focus on holistic wellness.
Acupuncture is arguably their most popular service here, and I like that they have a beginner-friendly package. It’s longer than the usual session; that extra time lets the acupuncturist give you a quick rundown of the process and lets you ask questions.
This clinic also offers facial acupuncture, which surprisingly is something that other acupuncture clinics don’t provide. I tried this for the first time here, and I was scared at first—I mean, needles on my face! But after a couple of sessions, I started seeing the benefits; my face looks smoother and more supple. It’s like skincare, in a way.
Other than acupuncture, this clinic offers traditional Chinese medicine consultations, massages, an infrared sauna, intuitive energy healing, Reiki, and more. Seriously, the list of their services is extensive!
It’s the prices that I have a problem with; they’re definitely not cheap. Coming here feels like a treat to give yourself for a momentous occasion. Fortunately, though, first-time customers get a special discount.

Relaxing atmosphere and friendly practitioners
“There is nowhere quite like it in Edmonton. The atmosphere is relaxing, and all of the staff are friendly and professional. I feel they go above and beyond (e.g., self care tips for beyond your visit). I would recommend Wellness on Whyte to anyone looking to relax, feel pampered and rejuvenated!”

Healify Wellness Clinic

Of all the clinics on this list, Healify Wellness Clinic is probably one of the more recent clinics I’ve tried, but it’s already made its way to my list of favourites.
The moment I met the head acupuncturist, Frank Yeh, I knew that I was at the right place. He has more than 10 years of experience in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, so he’s incredibly knowledgeable about this topic. No matter what question I asked, he was able to answer clearly.
The first meeting I had with him was free, too, and I appreciated that. It was a pretty long session, and we spent it just asking and answering questions. If you’re unsure about acupuncture, you should book this free consultation.
During my acupuncture treatment, the acupuncturist was so nice that I felt at ease. I barely felt the needles pricking my skin at all. After this session, I felt better, almost as if my muscles had been ironed over, getting rid of all the tense knots.
I mostly get acupuncture to deal with my back pain, but according to the clinic’s former patients, the acupuncturists here have helped them manage complex pain and issues like sciatica, osteoarthritis, migraine, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, and neuropathic pain.
Though acupuncture is the main service here, they also offer consultations regarding traditional Chinese medicine. I haven’t tried doing this yet, but I have heard good things from other clients. They told me that the herbal medicine they’ve tried at Frank’s recommendation has been amazing at calming their nerves or relieving their pain.
Healify Wellness Clinic gets another point from us because they accept insurance. In particular, they provide direct billing for Alberta Blue Cross and Telus Health eClaims, so if you have these as your insurance companies, then you’re in luck! With direct billing, your out-of-pocket expenses will be greatly reduced.
The only downside to this clinic is that they operate by appointment only. So, you can’t just walk in here and get an acupuncture treatment ASAP.

As a woman, I can understand women who only want to work with female acupuncturists. If you’re one of these people, then you’ll definitely love Monica Patt Acupuncture.
The great thing about this clinic is that it’s committed to catering to women. They specialize in using acupuncture to help with fertility, pregnancy, and reproductive health. I’ve never tried this before, but an aunt has, and she tells me how her acupuncturist here has helped her manage the pain she gets from her frequent period cramps.
Aside from women’s issues, this clinic offers acupuncture for migraines, pain and injuries, and digestive issues. Cosmetic acupuncture, aka facial acupuncture, is also available here if you want to rejuvenate your face.
Another thing I love about this clinic is that the acupuncturists work hard to make a plan that’s fully customized to fit your needs. It feels great when professionals listen to our concerns and then find a way to address them.
I know I’ve said that this clinic is popular among women, but the acupuncturists here have worked with men and people of other genders. They can even help men with reproductive issues like low sperm count. I didn’t know that acupuncture could do that!
I’m also happy to report that this clinic offers direct billing to insurance providers. This is such a convenient option because it saves you money and hassle!
However, the one annoying thing I have to say about this clinic is that they automatically book your next session even if you’re not sure yet. It’s true that you can always cancel and that they remind you two days in advance of your next session. But if you can’t cancel within 24 hours, you’ll have to pay a cancellation fee.

“I recently had an acupuncture treatment and I was very impressed. The clinic is very clean, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The staff are all friendly and welcoming, making me feel comfortable right away. From the front desk to the acupuncturist, everyone was professional and attentive. The treatment was amazing, and I left feeling much better and in a lot less pain! I highly recommend!”

Efficient and comfortable procedure
“I had an appointment with Rochelle today and I walked in not knowing what to expect and I am left speechless after experience. I am not a person who goes regularly for massages pr self care but she made me totally fall in love with experience and will be definitely going back again regularly. She addressed all problem spots in my body and took out all knots from neck and shoulder and that was one problem area that I have always had challenges with. As she was working through she explained what she was doing. She made sure I was comfortable throughout it.”

Thrive Acupuncture

Operating Hours:
- Monday and Wednesday—9 am to 5 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday—9 am to 8 pm
- Friday—9 am to 4 pm
Contact Number: +17808512220
Thrive Acupuncture has been operating for over 15 years now, and the fact that it’s still popular and well-recommended to this day is impressive.
I love that the acupuncturists here are experienced treating a wide variety of conditions. I mostly come here to ease my back pain, and it sometimes helps with my anxiety, but I’ve heard that this clinic can also help with neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, and reproductive issues.
I also like the array of services available here. They have the traditional acupuncture, which is the version we’re most familiar with and the one I keep booking.
They also have community acupuncture, which is essentially acupuncture that’s done with a group. Don’t worry, you won’t have to undress in front of everyone! This option just sounds great if you want to get the treatment with family members and friends.
This clinic even has electro-acupuncture, which fascinated me the first time I heard about it. This form of acupuncture is a modernized version, and it uses a small electrical current to supposedly enhance the benefits that you would get from traditional acupuncture.
Other than acupuncture, this clinic offers other services like moxibustion, herbal medicine, and nutritional therapy. There’s really something for everyone here.
That said, the prices here are pretty expensive. Their appointment for new patients clocks in at C$145! The service is fantastic, so I think the price is worth it, but other people might not think the same.
