The Best Driving Schools in Edmonton That Have Helped Me & My Friends Become Confident Drivers
Can I tell you a secret? I used to be scared of driving; in fact, that’s why I didn’t get my license at 16 years old like most people. I was just paranoid that I’d get into an accident; plus, my instructor was intimidating, which just made things worse.
It was only when I was in my mid-20s that I finally went back to driving school and discovered that it wasn’t too bad. In what felt like a snap, I finished my lessons and got my license. Who would’ve known that having a fantastic instructor is all it takes?
If you’re feeling apprehensive about learning how to drive, I feel you. Here are my recommendations for driving schools in Edmonton that will help you conquer your fear and become the best driver you can be.
How much does a driving school cost in Edmonton?
The cost of a driving school in Edmonton varies, but it usually falls within the ballpark of C$500 and C$600. Classes with this price range are already complete, so it includes both in-class and in-car lessons.
Kruzee Driving School

Address: 1483-10665 Jasper Avenue NW
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—9 am to 6 pm
- Saturday—10 am to 5 pm
Contact Number: +18662453103
I have to give a shoutout to Kruzee because it was the driving school that I approached after years of avoiding driving. It was the school that made me forget about my bad experience with a former instructor.
Right off the bat, I already knew I was going to like Kruzee because of the booking process. I just had to go to their website to book my classes—no need to go to a physical location. As such, the whole process was seamless and convenient.
I also really like how the website gives me access to all the required coursework, allowing me to review and study it in my spare time. This feature was helpful for me because at the time, I had a very demanding job, and I’m sure other people who are just as busy would appreciate this as well.
When it’s time for the actual driving lessons, an instructor will come to pick you up at your preferred location. The instructor I had was so friendly and nice that I thought I was just driving a friend.
She also explained traffic concepts and rules pretty well, and when I committed a mistake, she calmly corrected me. I asked some of the school’s former students, and it seems like they have similar experiences to mine.
The pricing is the only thing that would be considered a downside. Their rates are definitely on the higher end; the cheapest package is around C$700! Many people might find that too much.
That said, the school’s pricing is transparent and upfront, so there’s no need to worry about hidden fees. That’s something at least.

Approachable instructors
“Lori was my instructor and she helped me go from an uncomfortable driver, to having confidence on the roads. She spent time teaching me the rules of the roads as well as rules to functions such as parallel parking, reverse parking, etc. I highly recommend using Lori as your instructor as I passed my G2 first try with ease thanks to her.”

ONS Driving School

Address: 10212 127 Ave NW #202
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—8 am to 8 pm
Contact Number: +17802382245
ONS Driving School has to be one of the most popular driving schools in Edmonton, so I’m not surprised that many of my friends and co-workers recommended this one.
The main appeal of this driving school is the fact that they offer a wide variety of courses. Some courses offer both in-class and driving lessons, while others just offer driving lessons. They even have online classes, as well as brush-up sessions if you’ve attended lessons before but have forgotten a good chunk of them. This variety just proves that this school is intent on catering to as many types of people as possible.
This driving school also serves several locations. They already have four locations within Edmonton, but they also offer classes to students in nearby towns like Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, and St. Albert.
The pricing here is worth noting as well. Since they offer a variety of classes, the prices are also varied. There are ones with cheaper rates, perfect for people on a budget, while there are premium classes with premium rates. The latter type usually has a long schedule, around 20 hours of lessons, so it’s great for people who want a comprehensive education.
With all that said, I’ve noticed that reports regarding the instructors are pretty mixed. Most students told me that the instructors here are friendly enough, but others have a problem with the way they handle classes. According to these students, some instructors don’t bother to explain the lessons clearly or are aggressive when the student driver commits a mistake.

Great experience overall
“I had such a good experience with ONS driving school! I was honestly really scared at first because I had no idea what to expect, but I was so lucky to get Hardeep Mann as my instructor. She was so kind, patient, and really made me feel comfortable from the start. I never felt judged or nervous around her. She never yelled or made me feel bad, which helped me a lot. I learned so many things and feel way more confident about my driving now. She’s not just a great instructor, but also a genuinely nice person. I’m really grateful!”

Archer’s Blue Car Driving School

Address: 14014 159A Ave NW
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—9 am to 8 pm
Contact Number: +15879902583
Before writing this article, I’d never heard of Archer’s Blue Car Driving School, so when I kept hearing it from both my co-workers and strangers, I was intrigued. Apparently, this school is pretty underrated—and it’s owned by a family as well—but it has been voted as one of the best driving schools in Edmonton by readers of the Edmonton Journal and the Edmonton Sun for four years in a row!
What makes this school stand out from the rest is that they offer private lessons only. This is such a helpful feature because it allows the instructor to focus solely on one student. The student won’t feel the pressure of catching up with their classmates, and their lessons are customized to fit their learning style.
I also really like that their classes are usually scheduled on the weekends because it works for people with traditional 9-to-5 jobs. If you choose the premium classes, then you’re free to schedule your classes anytime you want within the week—yes, including weekends!
One thing to note about this school is that the prices for their most comprehensive courses are pretty high, way beyond C$700!
That said, they offer two-hour lessons with cheaper rates as an alternative. This is great if you just need a bit of a brush-up session, or if you can’t afford the full price but still want to know the basics.

Convenient and quick booking
“Both of our teens have gone through Drivers Training with Archers Blue Car, and we couldn’t be happier. Being able to be picked up and dropped off at your own preferred location and having access to quick online scheduling to book and modify the in-car lessons – was all appreciated. And both girls passed on their first attempt!!”

The Arrow Driving School

Address: 6203 28 Ave NW Unit 206, Millwoods Town Center
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday—6 am to 9:30 pm
Contact Number: +17807218282
When I asked former students what they liked about The Arrow Driving School, the main reply was that the instructors are wonderful. They’re knowledgeable, friendly, and most of all, not judgmental.
Many of the students are no longer teenagers, and they told me that they used to feel judged for being too scared to drive, but the instructors at Arrow were kind and understanding.
Another great thing about this school is that they offer a varied array of packages; I was pleasantly surprised when I was scrolling through their courses page, and it kept going.
These packages vary mostly in the number of hours you’ll be taking to study driving theory and practice real driving. They have classes with only 8 hours of lessons, and then on the higher end, they have classes with nearly 30 hours!
The prices also cover a wide spectrum. They have affordable options, as well as rates going as high as C$900! They even offer hourly rates as well if you just want a short lesson to brush up on your driving knowledge. So, whether you’re on a budget or you’re looking for the most comprehensive driving classes, this school’s got you covered.
I also really like that for your driving practice, the school makes sure to let you drive the newest car possible. This way, you won’t have to worry about any mechanical problems that would hinder your learning experience.
However, one complaint I kept hearing about this school is that the customer service needs to improve a lot. Many students tried booking their classes online, but they never heard back. They had to call just to get their booking confirmed. The customer service staff is nice enough, though.

Millwoods Driving School

Address: 3474 93 St NW #205
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—10 am to 4 pm
- Saturday—9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Contact Number: +17804506423
Millwoods Driving School has been training new drivers since 1989. The fact that the school is still operating to this day and has many former students vouching for their service is proof that it’s an institution you can trust.
The instructors are the stars of the show here. Most of them have had decades of experience, so they have that air of authority that you just can’t help but respect. Despite that, they’re still pretty friendly and approachable, so students feel comfortable with them.
Another thing that a lot of people love about this school is that the prices are fairly affordable. Their Class 5 course, which includes 15 hours of in-class or online lessons, 15 hours of road training, and an insurance reduction certificate, costs around C$600 (inclusive of additional fees).
If you prefer an hourly rate because you just want a short session, they offer that too, at C$50 per hour (plus GST). Compared to other schools, these prices aren’t too bad.
Millwoods also serves many locations, not just Edmonton. In particular, this school offers classes in Devon, Leduc, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Saskatchewan, Westend, Riverbend, Claireview, and Beaumont.
It should be noted, however, that prices will depend on your location. Some areas have cheaper rates, while others are more expensive.
This price discrepancy has a mixed reception among former students. Some of them think that it’s not fair that some areas get more expensive prices, but then there are also a few of them who think the prices reflect the cost of living in the area, hence the discrepancy.
I personally think that the company should’ve offered one standard price. If I were a student at Stony Plain or Fort Saskatchewan, I’d definitely feel like I’m being robbed because our rates are C$700 for the full course, while people in Edmonton and other locations get lower rates.
