1. Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic

Address: 11400 University Avenue NW
Phone: (780) 407‑5160
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic really shows what it means to have all your musculoskeletal care under one roof.
The different specialists—orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, and physiotherapists—actually work together instead of just existing in the same building. It makes sorting out injuries or rehab feel more straightforward.
We liked that you can access certain physio services directly without waiting for a referral. They even offer telerehabilitation and sport-specific rehab, which is handy if you can’t always make it to the clinic.
The University of Alberta connection is evident in how the clinic operates. Treatments feel very research-backed, and the clinicians bring in experience from varsity and professional sports that benefits everyone, not just athletes.
Their services cover everything from PRP and joint injections to knee injury clinics, concussion assessments, and support for osteoarthritis.
Moreover, having multiple locations, like the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and Saville Community Sports Centre, makes scheduling convenient.
Just keep in mind that most visits with orthopedic or sports medicine specialists still require a referral.
Trustworthy clinic
“I had accessed this clinic for privately paid physiotherapy services in the past and due to a recent injury I was looking to get back in and seek some care when I learned that they are closing in January. What a shame that provincial funding cuts to post-secondary have resulted in this clinic ultimately closing after 35+years of service. A real loss for our community and our health care system.”

Highly skilled and effective service
“A month ago I had an appointment with Yung Wong for a painful injury I had sustained from falling while climbing. After following her rehab plan and exercises since that day, I have made a near full recovery from my injury. Hands down, this is the fastest I have ever recovered from an injury. I recognize that there are many factors that contribute to the recovery process for a given injury, but I was extremely impressed with the accuracy and precision with Yung’s assessment and diagnosis. She identified the exact muscle that was injured from my general pain, and prescribed excercises to target that muscle in the exact way that was causing pain. Her breakdown and explanation of the anatomy and the reasoning behind her assessment was fascinating, and furthered my confidence in her conclusions. Yung is extremely skilled in her practice, and I believe that any person will benefit greatly from having an appointment with her. Thank you Yung!!”

2. Acumen Clinic Edmonton

Address: 15358 111 Ave NW
Phone: (587) 599‑5345
Business hours: Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Acumen Clinic Edmonton is the kind of place where orthopedic care actually feels personal. Appointments here aren’t rushed, so you have time to discuss your condition and decide if surgery or another option is right for you.
The surgeons have some serious specialization. For example, Dr. Curtis Myden focuses on the knee, shoulder, and elbow. They also have Dr. Lauren E. Roberts, who specializes in foot and ankle surgery.
It’s reassuring to know that no matter what issue you bring in, there’s someone here you can rely on.
They offer a wide range of surgical and injury solutions, from arthroscopic surgery and ACL or meniscus treatments to total joint replacements and other advanced procedures. This range covers just about any orthopedic concern you might have.
We appreciate how they integrate surgery with the recovery process. Post-surgery rehab, biomechanics assessments, and strength training are all available within the same network, so you don’t have to move between different providers.
Scheduling is surprisingly faster than in the public system, and lifetime follow-ups are included. This is reassuring if you want ongoing support.
One thing to keep in mind is the out-of-pocket expense, since it’s a private care clinic and not covered by standard provincial health insurance.
Highly professional and effective service
“I’ve been working with the professionals at Acumen going on four years now, from Skype visits to in person sessions I always feel they have my very best interest at the forefront of our work together. As an athlete I’ve never felt or performed better in my sport since starting at Acumen, and not to mention I have been totally injury free. I am wholeheartedly grateful for this place, its professionalism and the people there. I feel like I don’t pay them enough for what they do for me, Acumen has played a priceless role in my career. Deserves more than 5 stars!”

Exceptional and caring clinic
“This clinic and staff are AMAZING! they are professional, caring and prompt. After being told in March of 2024 I’d be waiting for about 2 years for surgery to fix my shoulder I found Acumen. Within a month of finding them I had surgery ( before I even had the MRI results discussed with my Red Deer dr). I can’t tell you how fabulous I was looked after. From the front house staff to Dr Myden, the nurses at the surgery center, you couldn’t get better care. My Dr phoned me, the day after, then in a couple days, then 1 a week for a month, then 1 a month for 6 months. I seen them any time I needed or wanted to. I talked to him for the last time in February and he said that I was doing great and unless I needed anything at all I was done. I have recommended them to everyone one I know that has had any issues or injuries, hips, knees, shoulders. One of my friends was actually told that he was doing pretty good and with continued physio wouldn’t need surgery. It’s not just about the money for them, it’s about making sure that you get the care that you deserve. One friend got his hip done and looks like a new man at 78. You can’t go wrong here.”

3. Advanced Orthopedic Systems Inc.

Address: 11838 111 Ave NW
Phone: (780) 452‑3321
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Advanced Orthopedic Systems is a long-standing local specialist serving Edmonton with custom orthotic care since the mid-1980s. That experience shows in how they handle every step of the process.
They start with a detailed biomechanics evaluation, looking closely at your gait and footwear, and then use precision CAD/CAM measurements to make custom orthotics on-site.
The best part is that many orthotics can be ready in about an hour, which is far quicker than most clinics!
Their expertise is clear throughout. The team is board-certified in both pedorthics and prosthetics.
You can also get custom braces and splints here, including knee support and shoe modifications, which come in handy for chronic problems or injuries. Many past patients have reported real relief from foot, knee, and joint pain.
It’s also helpful that they work with most insurance providers, so dealing with coverage is much easier.
The only minor con is the lack of BBB accreditation, but with over 30 years of experience and an in-house lab, it hardly matters.
Friendly and helpful clinic
“Friendly staff, very helpful. Jim found exactly where my foot pain was and was willing to try a few things to make my orthotic fit properly. Was also willing to do an adjustment for me. I appreciated that!
The great thing about this location is that they make the orthotics on site within an hour. You can take them home with you that day. Many podiatry clinics send their orthotics out to be made elsewhere, so you can’t easily get a size/fit adjustment if needed.”

Effective and attentive service
“I received a pair of orthopedic inserts on May 2 and the difference they’ve made in such a short time is incredible. The searing pain on the outside of my right foot has lessened (it seems like it will go away completely some day at this rate!) and I can now walk at a decent pace without my outer calf muscle feeling like it’s going to tear apart.
The service is fantastic and Ken makes everything so easy, right from the first appointment to getting the inserts. I hope he’s around for a long time because he has brought so much relief to my daily life.”

4. Alberta Surgical Group

Address: 2515 103A Street SW
Phone: (780) 229‑2533
Business hours: Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Alberta Surgical Group is a dedicated orthopedic surgical center that manages to stay efficient without compromising on care. This is evident in what past patients have shared, often highlighting how smoothly appointments and procedures are handled.
The facility is modern and has several operating rooms spread over 21,000 square feet. This setup helps them manage many procedures while keeping each patient’s care organized.
They perform many types of surgeries, including hip and knee replacements, carpal tunnel, and spinal procedures. This shows they can handle even complex orthopedic needs.
We like how the centre is set up to reduce wait times. Being under contract with Alberta Health Services helps them streamline surgeries and reduce wait time for routine orthopedic procedures.
The team relies on Medline Canada, a trusted supplier, to ensure every procedure uses quality equipment. This can help you feel more confident if you need surgery.
Still, the clinic doesn’t provide much in the way of rehabilitation or diagnostic options, and their non-surgical services are limited.
Friendly and professional team
“My husband had a total knee replacement. And I must say. From the greeting at the door when we first got there, to leaving after his surgery our experience was awesome!!
ALL the staff were wonderful. I’m sorry we didn’t get or can’t remember his nurses name but she was fantastic. Everyone there was fantastic, and the facility was amazing.
Thank you everyone, at Alberta Surgical Centre.”

Caring and professional team
“I just had a total knee replacement and with an existing cardiac condition I had to stay overnight. All areas of care were excellent even the microwaved meals had flavour. Staff were caring and friendly. My only complaint is lack of parking along with getting in and out to the main road. Have no issues if this is where you are sent for surgery. Special thanks to Christina and Lisa two great nurses.”

5. Dr. Carlo Panaro

Address: 5966 Gateway Blvd NW
Phone: (780) 481‑5650
Dr. Carlo Panaro has over 20 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon in Edmonton. You can see his skill in the way he manages complex musculoskeletal problems.
He handles a wide range of issues, from fractures and sports injuries to joint replacements and ligament reconstructions. He usually considers non-surgical options first, which helps patients avoid surgery when possible.
That balance between surgical skill and patient-centred planning makes it easy to trust his recommendations.
He uses advanced tools and minimally invasive techniques, like laser therapy and arthroscopic procedures, which can shorten recovery and improve results.
His surgery facilities and imaging tools help him give accurate diagnoses and care that fit each patient. We find it reassuring, especially if you want to feel confident about the care you’re getting.
Beyond the tech, his past patients consistently highlight his clear explanations and attentive aftercare. He takes the time to make sure patients understand their options and feel supported.
That said, his personal demeanour may come across as too formal or reserved, which could feel a bit intimidating for first-time visitors.
Highly skilled and exceptional surgeon
“This guy fixed my snapped in 3 places fib tib in Aug 2011… the thing was hanging off I mean it probably should have just gotten amputated. There were I think 2 other surgeons that looked at it before him and said they didn’t want to do it. I’ve had a rod in my leg ever since and haven’t had any problems. This guy isn’t just a doctor he’s a magician or a wizard or something. Unbelievable work, thanks Dr. Panaro. 🙌”

“Dr. Panaro did TRHR 9 years ago. To this day, it has been a total success! This Surgeon made me feel at ease in the OR, and everything went without an issue to my knowledge. He was straight to the point , and to this day I am grateful for a life changing experience. Thanks Dr Carlo Panaro 5 Stars!”
