Give your child a leg up with the best preschools in Edmonton!
Being a parent can feel daunting, especially when you start thinking about your kid’s future. I’ve taught mine plenty at home, but with work and everything else piling up, I knew I couldn’t do it alone.
Enrolling her in preschool turned out to be the best move. She comes home every day with stories about the fun and learning she’s getting, and it’s clear how much she’s growing!
But before I settled on one, I researched the best preschools in Edmonton, which I’m sharing here to help other parents. And if you’re looking for extra support, I’ve also rounded up the best tutoring centres in the city.
How much does preschool cost in Edmonton?
Preschool tuition in Edmonton typically costs about $350 per month, depending on the number of days per week your child attends, plus registration and material fees. Most schools also apply Alberta’s Affordability Grant, which reduces costs by around $100 per month.
1. Purpose Preschool

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the Montessori method, which is why I chose Purpose Preschool for my daughter. The place really leans into child-led learning and puts a big emphasis on outdoor play.
The kids spend time in a large yard throughout the year, which I find refreshing compared to the usual indoor setups. My daughter especially enjoys exploring the plants outside and learning about them in a hands-on way.
It helps that they run both morning and afternoon sessions. I usually send her after lunch, and my husband picks her up after work. The “Purpose Plus” option adds an extra hour, which has been useful when our schedules get busy.
On the financial side, tuition is higher than average, and the $500 enrolment fee stings. They do ease things a bit with the Alberta Affordability Grant and a 10% sibling discount.
Our son has loved attending Purpose
“Our son has loved attending Purpose. We are so happy with the way they approach learning and noticed he quickly became comfortable to attend. He has made many friends and looks forward to going to school. The outdoor aspect is unique to this preschool and he really enjoys having that opportunity in his school day. We are looking forward to our youngest attending in the fall. We have had great communication and feel like the teachers are really good fits within this school’s environment. We have mentioned this school to many friends and family, and hope to see more kiddos discover learning in this special school.”

This preschool has been a true blessing for our family
“We recently moved to the country, and this preschool has been a true blessing for our family. The staff made us feel right at home, and our daughter started speaking English so quickly thanks to their caring and engaging approach. We especially appreciate that some teachers speak Spanish, which gives us peace of mind in case of emergencies (especially at the beginning). The focus on family values, kindness, and community is exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommended!”

2. Early Learning Childcare

Address: 10305 100 Ave NW #104
Phone number: +1 780-718-7371
Business hours: 7:15 AM – 5:45 PM (MON-FRI)
I checked out Early Learning Childcare in downtown Edmonton, and it’s been around since 2017. What caught my eye is that they follow Alberta’s FLIGHT curriculum, so it’s play-based but still structured enough to get kids ready for school.
The split programs by age, starting with infants who mostly observe, then toddlers who explore and create, and preschoolers who get more into thinking and problem-solving.
Sensory play is a big part of their day, and they also put effort into teaching empathy and social responsibility, even connecting kids with seniors for story time.
Meals are prepared by a chef and change with the seasons, which feels like a nice touch compared to the usual daycare snacks. They also have a referral program that gives tuition credits.
Downsides are their inability to accept cash payments and limited spots, so families need to plan ahead.
Turned out to be the best choice!
“We are glad that we decided to send our kid to this daycare 1 and half years ago when we were choosing between three daycares in the area—which turned out to be the best choice! The educators demonstrate care and patience everyday in their work, creating fun activities to develop babies skills. Everyday when I drop off my kid I know they are in good hands. I can’t thank them enough for taking such good care of our kid and helping him overcome some societal anxiety and become more and more confident each day.”

This place has been amazing for my son
“I’m super happy with Early Learning Childcare. This place has been amazing for my son. Sherry is always quick to respond and super helpful with any questions I have. Ange is fantastic. She’s so kind and friendly, and my son absolutely loves her. She’s great with the kids and makes them feel right at home. Overall, I couldn’t ask for a better daycare. It’s a huge relief knowing my son is in such good hands. I’d definitely recommend Early Learning Childcare to any parent looking for a caring and supportive place for their child.”

3. West Edmonton Playschool

Address: 15525 84 Ave NW
Phone number: +1 780-918-1115
Business hours:
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (MON, WED, and FRI)
9:00 AM – 11:30 AM (TUES and THURS)
West Edmonton Playschool has been part of the Lynnwood community for years, and it still feels very grassroots. It’s parent-run, which keeps tuition low and gives the place a real neighbourhood vibe.
The affordability is probably the biggest selling point, with tuition fees starting at $58 per month. Compared to other preschools around Edmonton, it’s definitely cheaper.
I also liked that it wasn’t just the usual preschool routine. The kids get Spanish lessons through songs and games, yoga sessions that help them burn off energy, and even Kindercook, where they try simple cooking.
They also head out on field trips, which add variety and keep things fresh.
There are some drawbacks, though. If you need Tuesday and Thursday classes, they only run in the mornings, which doesn’t suit every family. And if you live on the east side, the location can feel like a bit of a haul.
Wonderful school!
“Wonderful school! The teachers are absolutely amazing and so loving and patient with the children. The program is very well run and even includes a second language program! My daughter begs to go, even on weekends—always waking up asking me if there is school today!”

If you’re thinking about getting your child into structured learning early, Preschool Scholars is worth a look. They keep the classes small, which makes it easier for teachers to give kids more attention.
Their program blends play with academics, so children get exposure to reading, maths, and science while still having time for art and play.
I liked that they put effort into creative expression, with music and storytelling helping kids build confidence. They also focus on global citizenship and identity, which feels fitting in a city as diverse as ours.
For families who want something more advanced, their Scholars Program encourages critical thinking and leadership, and the summer camps keep kids busy with science and arts during the break.
However, their curriculum can feel demanding if you prefer a looser play-based style. Their location can also be tricky for most families.
I’m truly grateful for the dedication and care shown by the staff
“We transferred our daughter to this preschool midway through the school year, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the support she received. The teachers went above and beyond to help her catch up academically and socially with the other children. Week by week, we saw a remarkable transformation—her confidence grew, and she became much more expressive, both in writing and communication. I’m truly grateful for the dedication and care shown by the staff. I would wholeheartedly recommend this preschool to other parents.”

5. Jumpstart Learning Academy

Address: 3580 Allan Dr SW
Phone number: +1 587-524-1065
Business hours: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (MON-FRI)
One preschool that I think would be a good fit if you’ve got a kid who’s already showing signs of being ahead of the curve is Jumpstart Learning Academy.
This preschool is built around preparing kids for programs like Cogito, Tempo, and Aurora, which all have entrance exams.
Instead of leaning on play-based activities, they use their own JumpStart curriculum that zeros in on academics. Kids get early exposure to reading, writing, maths, and problem-solving.
They even provide home learning packages so parents can keep things consistent outside of class. Extended care and transportation are available too, which is handy for busy families.
The trade-offs are worth noting. There’s no outdoor playtime, and parents have to pack snacks themselves. For parents who want a play-based preschool with built-in meals, this might feel limiting.
Jumpstart has been a big part of our daughter’s development
“Jumpstart has been a big part of our daughter’s development for the last year. She has learned how to recognize letters, shapes, numbers and colors. She is always looking forward to going. Ms Jen and Ms Jessica are absolutely wonderful and do a great job creating a safe, comfortable and fun learning environment.”

I deeply appreciate how they respect students, giving them the space to grow and express themselves, while maintaining a strong academic focus. The administration is responsive and always strives to address any concerns or questions from parents.”
