I love attending parties, but planning parties? Just planning the logistics alone is enough to give me hives, and nailing down the theme by myself has me sweating in panic. 

After years of being the de facto event planner of my immediate circle, I finally made the jump to book an actual event planner. And my goodness, I can’t believe it took me this long to do this. Having an actual event planner has saved me so much time and energy that I can now focus on just having fun.

How much does an event planner cost in Edmonton?

It’s hard to give a precise estimate for hiring an event planner in Edmonton because the price depends on many factors, especially the type of event and the event planner’s business model. 
Some companies charge a flat fee while others charge by the hour. As for the types of events, weddings are going to cost a lot, while birthday parties can be on the cheaper end. 
If you’re hiring an event planner for a birthday or an intimate gathering, you can expect the rate to be somewhere around C$800 and C$1,000. It can be lower if the event only has a few guests (around 30 or fewer). 
For corporate events, the rates are usually around C$3,000 to C$5,000, especially if the event requires a lot of guests. 
Weddings are the most expensive when it comes to event planning. The price range usually clocks somewhere between C$8,000 and C$10,000, especially if the wedding is huge and elaborate.

Cocktails and Details is the recent addition to this list, and that’s only because I recently attended my friend’s wedding, which was planned and coordinated by a team at this company. The wedding was essentially a fairy tale come true, and when my friend had nothing but good things to say, I was impressed. 

The main thing that my friend loved about them is how easy it was to work with their event planners. The planners were warm and friendly, and they listened attentively to everything my friend wanted. They were also updated about the newest wedding trends, and my friend appreciated all the suggestions they gave to make the event better. 

Even though weddings are the company’s specialty, they also offer planning services for general private parties and corporate events. 

I like that they even have separate service packages with their different perks and prices. They have a package if you just want someone to set up the venue and take down everything afterward, but if you want full-service planning, they have that, too. 

This company also has its own online planning platform, which has everything you need to know about your event. It has checklists, timelines, a design portal, and more. This is such a convenient feature because it lets you check the progress of the event at any time. 

The prices are definitely on the higher end, though; their cheapest option is around C$1,500. My friend and a few of the company’s other clients all thought that the price they paid was worth it, but some people might think that it’s too much.

If you want your event to exude luxury and elegance, then Edge of Elegance by Ala is the event planner for you. 

What I like about Edge of Elegance by Aya is that they own the props they use to decorate the parties, so you’re essentially cutting out the middleman if you have them as an event planner. 

The variety of the props is impressive as well; they have all sorts of fabrics, centrepieces, backdrops, entrances, and ceiling decor. They even have staircases!

Are you feeling overwhelmed by all your options? Then, don’t worry, you can just choose any of the set themes available and leave the decorations to the team. I personally love Garden Elegance, but Midnight Affair and Floral White Elegance also have my heart. 

This event planning company is also flexible when it comes to the type of party they plan. They’re best known for their weddings and bridal showers, but they’ve also dabbled in intimate private events. 

I also like that they don’t have set prices for their services. Instead, you can book a consultation (free of charge, by the way), where you can let your planner know what your vision is, and they can give you a rough estimate of what the final price will be. 

That said, keep in mind that this estimate is exactly that: just an estimate. It’s rarely going to be the final price; it’s even possible that it goes up in the end. That’s to be expected, but I know some people won’t like the fact that the price they were initially given wouldn’t be the final one.

One of my friends considers River City Events as their go-to event planner, primarily because of how versatile they are. Their planners are experienced in handling all sorts of events—from small, intimate events to large, elaborate weddings. 

They also have a massive inventory of props and decorations, making it easy for anyone to build their dream event. 

My friend has hosted several events, and all of them look vastly different, even though she had the same event planner. One time, she had a garden gathering, with barbecue and griddles, another time was a pool party, with inflatables and entertainment, and the most recent was an outdoor birthday party with a massive tent and a long table for catering. 

Don’t even get me started about their décor. You can jazz up your event with florals, planters, candles, and jewel accents. You can even have pillars and arches if you want your party to look magical or romantic! 

Their event planners also make sure to work with you every step of the way. I love that they listen attentively to your vision, and they try to give a few suggestions based on current trends. 

On the day of the event, the team arrives way ahead of schedule to set up, and then once everything is over, they start packing up right away. 

As much as I love the planning and designing team, the customer service of this company could be better. My friend told me that the customer service doesn’t reply as fast as she would like every time she has an issue, and more than once, she encountered a customer service representative who was rude and unhelpful.

I first discovered Bee Together in 2017, which was around the same time they first started doing business, and since then, I’ve been a repeat customer. Even though this company is made up of a small team, everyone gives their all! 

This company offers a good array of services, too, so you can just get the ones that fit your needs. For example, if you’re on a budget, you can just book their event design or rentals and figure out the planning yourself. 

But if money isn’t an issue, you can book their full-service planning; that way, you don’t want to worry about anything at all. They can even facilitate a team-building event if you’re thinking of a fun event with co-workers.

Another thing I love about this company is that the team works like a well-oiled machine. The moment you book a consultation with them, they waste no time: they’ll listen to your needs, then assess them before coming up with a proposal that you can review. 

Once you accept the proposal, they kick into full gear: they figure out the logistics, set up partnerships if needed, and more. Of course, they send you updates the whole time, which is greatly appreciated. 

The team is also open to constructive criticism. After the event, they hold a debrief where you can discuss what went right and what went wrong. This is your opportunity to tell them (as kindly as possible) the mistakes, and they accept them graciously.

If I have to nitpick something about this company, it’d probably be the fact that there are no set prices on their services. On the one hand, it’s a good thing because it shows that the pricing is flexible, but on the other hand, it’s a downside because some people want to prepare their budget beforehand.

Foundry Events is operated by people who have decades of experience in the event planning industry. They have worked with so many types of events, including a full-blown festival! 

Their event planners go all out! Aside from the typical responsibilities of handling the equipment and scheduling, they can also offer you custom decorations to make your event pop. If you’re hosting a huge event, they’ll even incorporate a budget and financial strategy, as well as risk and contingency planning! 

Their services don’t just stop there. They also offer creative program development (e.g., interactive workshops, demos, curated speaker lineups, and networking events), event production and execution, and corporate and VIP experiences. 

All in all, Foundry Events is perfect for large-scale events like conventions, concerts, and festivals. They do handle intimate parties, too, but these are definitely not their expertise. 

The pricing here is flexible, though from what I’ve gathered after asking their former clients, it seems like it’s usually on the higher end. That said, they don’t mind the higher rate because their events have been epic in scale, and the team has been fantastic to work with, so past clients think that it’s all worth it.
