The 5 Best Halal Restaurants in Edmonton for Smoky Kebabs and Family Feasts

Culinary authenticity: I checked whether each kitchen sticks to one tradition, like Moroccan tagines or Pakistani karahi. A menu of generic wraps rarely satisfies diners who want real regional spices.

Family amenities: I looked at how each restaurant caters to groups, from playrooms and prayer facilities to family platters and booking options. Sharing a meal with young children takes space and patience.

Value and portions: I compared platter sizes against the typical cost to see who gives hungry diners the most food for their money. Nobody wants to pay premium prices for a tiny plate of rice and a single skewer.

Menu variety: I looked at the breadth of each menu for vegetarian or milder dishes alongside the heavy spice options. Pleasing a large group usually means someone will ask for them.

Finding a halal restaurant that serves real charcoal-grilled meat instead of dry, reheated cuts usually means driving across town. It gets harder when you need space for a large family and an alcohol-free dining room.

Halal spots in Edmonton also vary a lot, from quick shawarma counters to sit-down places with full regional menus. So I compared local restaurants on authentic flavour, family comfort, value and menu choice.

After much research, here are the best halal restaurants in Edmonton, from smoky kebabs to hearty regional dishes and family-sized feasts.

How much does a halal meal cost in Edmonton?

A halal meal in Edmonton costs from $14.19 CAD per person for a quick shawarma wrap to $41.99 CAD per person for a sit-down charcoal-grilled sharing platter.

OptionTypical price
Fast casual and quick bites$14.19 to $22.50 CAD
Casual dining and sit-down$18.99 to $41.99 CAD
Lunch and brunch buffets$15.00 to $20.00 CAD
Dinner and specialty buffets$25.00 to $40.00 CAD

1. Turquaz Kebab House

turquaz-kebab-house

Website: https://www.turquazkebabhouse.com/

Address: 13310 137 Avenue

Contact: +1 780-476-4511

Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM

Dragging toddlers to a sit-down meal usually ends in tears.

Turquaz Kebab House builds their dining room around family comfort, with an interactive children’s playroom and dedicated prayer and ablution spaces. That takes the stress out of weekend community lunches.

They grill their halal meats over real charcoal and bake fresh goods in an in-house stone oven, which gives the food its smoky character.

A friend of mine ordered their mixed platter and said the smoky crust on the meat tasted exactly like the street stalls back home.

The platter also makes sharing simple for a group.

The catch is their strict food satisfaction policy. They require you to report any issues before you’ve eaten half the meal to be qualified for a refund.

Pros

  • Dedicated prayer and wudu rooms
  • Interactive children’s play area
  • Meats cooked over real charcoal
  • In-house stone baking oven

Cons

  • Refunds require reporting before eating half the meal

the Turquaz Kebab House offers great Halal food

We’ve been visiting this location for a few years, we always get the best service by Maria & Ilham, they’re very hospitable and just amazing in every visit, serving us professionally with a genuine smile and warm welcoming. We will always come back, thank you Maria & thank you Ilham ⭐⭐

That being said, the Turquaz Kebab House offers great Halal food, kitchen staff know what they’re doing, fresh ingredients, and the taste is just delicious👌. We hope that they don’t change their quality or their pricing because that’s why they’re the best. The prayer room is another Plus…

Would recommend it if you love halal food

I’v visited this Turkish Restaurant a few weeks ago. The food were delicious and of big portion, the ambiance is arabic and busy. The host is very friendly and generous, we got a free turkish desert that is made of pistachio and chocolate cream, tastes like ice cream cake. Would recommend it if you love halal food and prefer bigger portion.

Finding a proper halal breakfast feast that goes beyond standard eggs and toast is tricky. Best Kabab Restaurant steps in with a massive traditional Turkish breakfast at $29.99 CAD per person that includes unlimited tea.

3. Istanbul Kebab and Donair

istanbul-kebab-and-donair

Website: https://istanbulkebabdonair.com/

Address: 12556 132 Avenue

Contact: +1 780-752-2442 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday to Sunday: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Most quick-service joints drown their wraps in heavy sauces to hide dry meat.

Istanbul Kebab and Donair is a refreshing change of pace, with a focus on regional Turkish preparations like Adana and Beyti. This allows students grabbing a quick lunch get complex spices instead of bland filler.

Beyond the standard rice plates, they bake traditional spinach-and-feta or sujuk pide in the kitchen.

When I dropped by for a late lunch, the fresh lahmacun had a perfectly crisp edge that held up to the savoury meat topping. The portions left me completely full.

For groups, they also offer shared family meat platters and a traditional weekend breakfast.

Keep in mind, though, that their online reservation form only accepts parties of four or more, so couples can’t use it to book ahead.

They’re also closed on Mondays.

Pros

  • Regional Turkish kebab variations
  • Bakes fresh pide and lahmacun
  • Offers shared family meat platters
  • Serves traditional weekend breakfast

Cons

  • Online booking requires at least four guests
  • Closed on Mondays

4. The Bedouins Restaurant

the-bedouins-restaurant

Website: https://thebedouinsrestaurant.com/

Address: 12832 137 Avenue

Contact: +1 780-478-6979 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Thursday: 12:00 PM to 9:30 PM | Friday and Saturday: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM | Sunday: 12:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Diners who only eat shawarma may miss out on the rich stews of North Africa.

The Bedouins Restaurant brings those deep, earthy flavours to your table with halal Moroccan and Libyan dishes.

For bigger groups, the huge sharing platters pile lamb mandi and rice into a feast. They cost more than typical cheap eats near the university, but they easily feed a whole work outing.

If you prefer your own plate, the lamb tagine with prunes delivers a brilliant mix of savoury cuts and sweet fruit.

Booking is simple too, since the restaurant takes group reservations. If you’re working with event planners on a team event, that’s one less thing to sort out.

There restaurant’s atmosphere and interior are great too. There’s a clay-pot Tangia served under a ceiling draped with warm lanterns.

Unfortunately, several of their distinct Libyan and Moroccan specialties are only served Friday through Sunday.

Pros

  • Authentic Moroccan and Libyan dishes
  • Immersive Bedouin-inspired dining room
  • Massive family-style sharing platters
  • Accommodates large group reservations

Cons

  • Select regional dishes only available on weekends
  • Higher price point

5. Khan Kebabs & Karahi

khan-kebabs-karahi

Website: https://www.khankebabs.ca/

Address: 2619 Ellwood Drive

Contact: +1 780-450-9100 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Thursday: 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM | Friday to Sunday: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM

After you’ve settled on one of the wedding venues in Edmonton the next worry is finding food that suits a big, mixed crowd.

Khan Kebabs & Karahi makes that easier with custom catering halal trays and rich Pakistani and Afghani dishes that work for weddings, religious gatherings and other large events.

Their kitchen turns out Peshawari Shinwari-style lamb karahi alongside traditional Kabuli Pullao loaded with carrots and raisins.

For guests who prefer milder heat, the staff can make a gentle Chicken Malai Boti that still packs plenty of flavour.

However, the standard catering menu leans on medium and large trays. If you’re hosting a very small dinner party, you may need to ask about a custom-sized order.

Pros

  • Authentic Pakistani and Afghani cuisine
  • Customizable large-scale event catering
  • Offers mild dishes like Chicken Malai Boti
  • Traditional Peshawari lamb karahi available

Cons

  • Not the best option for very small dinner party

Amazing Pakistani and Afghani food in Edmonton! Khan Kebabs & Karahi is one of the best halal restaurants in Edmonton for authentic BBQ and karahi. We tried the Shinwari lamb karahi, chapli kebab and Kabuli pulao, Tawa BBQ platter for 6 and everything was fresh, flavourful and cooked perfectly. The lamb karahi was especially delicious and authentic. Great portions, friendly service and a nice family atmosphere.
