Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve known what my dream house would look like. It would be big enough to house the basics (bedroom, living room, kitchen, etc.), plus rooms for my hobbies (specifically, a library and a gaming room).
I’m glad to say that I’ve finally managed to make my dream house come true as an adult, and it’s all thanks to home builders in Edmonton. Now, I’m always excited to finish work and come home because it’s a safe space for me to relax and simply live my life.

Effect Home Builders is the one I booked when I felt ready to build my house, and that’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
The main reason why I love this company—and why I went with them in the first place—is the fact that they prioritize sustainability. They make sure that all their house designs are environmentally friendly and suitable for Edmonton’s extreme climate.
They can even set up a solar electric system on your roof! I was so glad to hear that they offer this because making the house energy-efficient was one of my goals as well.
I also really like the house models available on their website. Most of them are in the contemporary style, but they also offer a few traditional options. As for the size, the builders have worked on a diverse array as well—from cozy bungalows to sprawling, multi-story houses.
The whole process is pretty seamless, too. First, they’ll have a free, initial consultation, where you sit down with the sales and design manager and discuss your vision for your future home.
After the consultation, the team will work on a design concept. They will start with floor plan layouts, and then they’ll slowly add exterior style options and other big-picture elements.
They’ll even use 3D modelling software to bring the vision to life! That was the most exciting part for me because it was when I started to realize that I was close to having my dream come true.
Once everything is finalized, it’s time to make the detailed construction drawings, work with engineers and consultants, and make the contract. Everything is laid out clearly in the contract, so you don’t have to worry about encountering any hidden fees.
After you sign the contract, it’s off to construction. This one, understandably, takes a long time, but the process is smooth. The construction team is prompt and efficient, and if there’s any problem, they won’t hesitate to communicate with you.
Honestly, I have no major complaints, but if I have to nitpick something, it’ll have to be the price. They’re definitely on the more expensive side of the spectrum, but I think their rates are worth it.

Art Homes was one of the home builders I initially considered, thanks to my friend recommending it to me.
What makes customers love them is the fact that their houses do look like works of art! They tend to lean on whimsical designs, which is perfect if you find modern trends boring. Even the names of their house models invoke a sense of whimsy and magic; examples include Enchanting, Charming, Cinderella, and Darling.
Former clients have told me that they loved the process because the team let them get creative.
If you think that planning a house from the ground up is too tedious, don’t worry, because Art Homes also has ready-made houses that you can buy and move into ASAP!
They also have close relationships with mortgage advisers from major banks in Canada. So, if you need financing help, don’t worry because they can help you get a mortgage or other necessary loans. Someone from the company can even act as your negotiator so that you’ll get the best deal from the bank!
Another great thing about them is the fact that they’re members of the Canadian Home Builders’ Associations, and they’re covered by the New Home Buyer Protection Act. Because of this, all the houses they build come with a home warranty, which is fantastic news!
However, one complaint I heard was that their communication is lacking. A friend and several former clients have told me that there were instances when they reached out to the company, and it took a few days before they got a response. This can get annoying, so keep that in mind.

Alair Homes Edmonton is an underrated company. Personally, I’d never heard about them until a colleague mentioned them to me, and after doing a bit of research, I discovered that they’re a pretty solid home builder.
They specialize in custom home designs, so they’re perfect for people who have grand plans for their house.
Clients have also told me that this home builder is transparent, which they greatly appreciate. The team shares essential information with their clients—be it pricing, contract information, and the like—so everyone is on the same page throughout the process.
They even have their own project management software, which they let their clients access.
House construction isn’t the only service available here. Alair Homes also offers room renovations and commercial builds, such as offices.
The only downside to this company is their pricing. Considering they specialize in custom designs, the rates are definitely on the higher end. That’s why I recommend having a consultation first so that you’ll know what you’re in for.

With a change in Project Managers at the framing stage, Cory Symes seamlessly stepped in and got things going. The majority of the trades were great and did quality work. Landmark Homes Edmonton has been around since 1977, so it has stood the test of time. In fact, some clients I interviewed had their homes built by this company in the 1980s and 1990s! If you want to have a long-lasting home, this is the builder for you.
I chalk up Landmark’s long and thriving business to their ability to adapt and keep up with the times. They’ve even started using robotics for building!
They also make sure that the houses are built in a way that will keep the air quality inside clean. And if you want to make your house energy efficient, they can install solar panels or other green energy technology.
You’ll also get the chance to design your house’s interior however you want. Landmark Homes has their own design studio that lets you choose your cabinetry, flooring, plumbing, and other components.
If you’re overwhelmed with the thought of interior design, don’t worry, because a special team can help you decide on your aesthetic!
What if you don’t really like the idea of spending so much time conceptualizing a house? Then, you’ll be delighted to know that Landmark has some ready-made houses. You can even move into some of these houses in 90 days or less!
That said, if you do choose one of their ready-made houses, I recommend booking a third-party inspector to check the house thoroughly before you make the purchase.
I’ve heard complaints from former clients who experienced problems with their ready-made houses because they didn’t check properly.
I’ve also heard that the rates here can be high. But they do offer financing help if you need it. They can connect you with mortgage specialists and find a plan that fits your needs.

You can create your own floor plan with their team, or you can pick from their library of past projects and take inspiration from one of them.
Many of Sterling Homes’ past clients have also told me that the houses are well-built. You can tell that the engineering is precise, and the team also makes the effort to ensure that the house is perfectly airtight.
They can also make the house energy-efficient by installing a solar energy system; this is great news if you’re interested in sustainable living.
Quick possessions are also available here if you want a house pronto and don’t care about designing a house from the ground up.
Some of these houses are pending, which means you have to wait some time before you can move in, but there are others that are move-in ready. The best part is that sometimes, these quick possession houses are available at a limited-time discount!
Another great thing about this builder is that they have houses in a lot of places, not just Edmonton. Currently, they offer their services at Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Saskatchewan, Devon, and Beaumont.
However, I’ve heard former clients complain about the customer service. Sometimes, they don’t reply in a timely manner when a client reports an issue. The client has to reach out several times to get a response.
