I have to admit: when I first bought my house, I didn’t expect tree-related issues. But apparently, these are common for homeowners.
Thankfully, I found arborists who have been a great help in dealing with the trees in my yard. Now, I know who to call if I spot another hazardous branch.

The first thing I’m impressed about City Tree Service is their array of services. They don’t just have tree removals (their most popular service), but they also have pruning and maintenance services. They can even plant trees, and you get to pick what type.
The second impressive thing is how fast they work. I remember calling them for a quote, and when I approved it, they came the next day! The team was also efficient in removing the tree; all—from quoting to removal—was done in less than two days.
Additionally, I appreciate the amount of care that goes into their work. They’re mindful of the power cables, and they don’t just throw branches to the ground in case there’s someone below. Then, when everything’s done, they make sure to clean up.
If you love to garden, you’ll be delighted to know that they offer garden mulch or wood chips, which are upcycled from tree waste! I love that they’re not just throwing everything out.
If I have to be nitpicky, I’d say I wish that stump grinding were part of their tree removal service. Other arborists offer to grind stumps when someone books them for tree removal, but for this company, stump grinding is a separate service.

Though Alberta Arborist mostly serves Edmonton, they’re also willing to cater to clients in neighbouring areas like Sherwood Park and St. Albert. That’s a plus in my book!
The list of services here is decent. In addition to tree removal, they can assess a tree (if it’s a hazard) and grind stumps. If you’re growing trees, you can ask for their help with tree fertilization or book their pruning services if their branches are getting long.
The team here is worth praising as well. First off, they’re easy to talk to and answer all the questions during the consultation before giving you an estimate. Then, on the day of the removal, the crew arrives on time and goes straight to the job.
The crew is also mindful of any mess they make. After they’ve pruned or removed the trees, they do a thorough cleanup, which clients appreciate so much.
However, one downside to this company is that they’re pretty busy, so sometimes they’re hard to get a hold of (you might end up getting sent to an answering machine). This is especially annoying if you need their services ASAP, so I understand the complaints.

Edmonton Arborist is easy to contact; you can simply reach out to them via phone or their website. Oh, and they’re also available every day, which is a great bonus!
Their communication skills are stellar. When you call in to ask for a free quote, the person on the other end is friendly and accommodating. You can even text the crew about updates or any questions you have about the process.
That said, I’ve heard stories about a customer service agent being rude. This never happened to me, and I like to hope this is no longer an issue now, but it’s worth noting all the same.
On a more positive note, the arborist crew is always compliant with protocol, so they work around overhead lines seamlessly. Plus, they put in the effort to clean up the work area afterward. They’ll even stack up firewood for you!
Another great thing about this company is that tree removal isn’t their only service. They can also prune bushes, hedges, and trees, plant new trees, or clear some land.
They can even do emergency tree removals if needed. This service has been a lifesaver to me once; a tree once fell on our house during a horrible storm, and Edmonton Arborist was quick to get to the scene and safely remove that tree.

Active Tree Services has been around for more than 25 years, which is quite impressive. One of the reasons for their success is their promise of quick service. They guarantee to remove your tree in under three days.
Turns out, they stick by that promise, and even better, they’re also thorough. They finish their task quickly and don’t leave a mess behind.
I also appreciate that every time they cut a tree, they chop it up for firewood.
Not sure if this is the company for you? You can ask for free quotes! The pricing here is pretty impressive. It’s around half of the other quotes I received from other companies.
The array of services here could be better, though, especially when compared to other companies. They only offer tree removals, stump and root grinding, and pruning services. I wish they had other services like tree health and maintenance and tree planting.

Gerry’s Cheapest Tree Removal caught my attention with its name. I was glad to find that they live up to that name; the quote I got from them was lower compared to other companies, and other clients agree!
I also love how communicative this company is. When I called to get my free quote, the person on the other end was professional and answered all my questions. They were also transparent about how busy they could be sometimes.
Once I was able to book a date, I didn’t have to wait a long time for the job to get done. The team came and operated like a well-oiled machine. They even removed the stumps, which is usually a separate service!
I also appreciate how prompt the team was. They actually arrived an hour early at my house, and they were able to finish the entire process within an hour and a half. That’s pretty impressive.
This company only offers tree removals and pruning services, which is good enough, but I do wish they offered more services like tree health and maintenance and tree planting. Compared to other arborist companies, their list of services is lacklustre.
